This Week I Survived. That’s Enough.

Every room in the house is being painted. Every room. I have been sleeping in my office since Monday. Chair or makeshift bed, depending on who got there first. The rotation is me, my wife, and the cat. Nobody is winning except the Mets.

Wednesday at 3am I opened a wine. Not because I wanted wine at 3am. Because it was there and I was awake and the painters were coming back in four hours. It just seemed like the thing to do. Then the power went out. The whole coast went black. I stepped outside and the sky was full of stars. The entire coastline, dark and quiet. Just me and the wine and the kind of sky you forget exists when the lights are on.

It was the best moment of the week.

Last night I watched the New York Mets open their season. I watched a rookie, Carson Benge, hit a home run. I feel like I may be watching history. That counts for something.

Here is what I know about weeks like this. You don’t come out of them with insights. You come out of them having held the line. Sometimes the things you love have to be put on hold and the hope that they will return when the chaos subsides is motivating.

The Forge went out. The Manus piece went out. The Field Test Framework PDF is live for paid subscribers. The work moved forward inside a week that had no right to produce anything.

That is the only find worth sharing this Friday. The conditions are never going to be perfect. The painters are always coming. You ship anyway.

Rest this weekend. We come back sharp next week.
