Sun, Fish, and a Card Game Nobody Has Played Yet

I bought my wife Vitamin D tablets this week because we haven’t seen enough sun.

Then I sat here.

That’s the contradiction I live in. Supplementing sunlight while sitting twenty metres from the Mediterranean. I’m not complaining. I’m just reporting accurately.

This week’s three finds are not tools. They’re not frameworks. They’re things that were actually in my week. That’s the new filter for this column.

FIND 01 / THE BODY

Vitamin D3 + K2 and the pescatarian thought that came with it

I was looking up Vitamin D tablets for my wife. You go down that road and you end up reading about fish. Oily fish specifically. Salmon, sardines, mackerel. Your body makes D3 from sunlight and you can also just eat it.

I’ve been thinking about going pescatarian for a while. Not for ideology. Just because the fish here in Málaga is genuinely good and my body probably wants less of what I’ve been giving it. This week the research and the thought connected. I haven’t committed yet. But the direction feels right.

If you’re supplementing anything this winter, check what you’re actually deficient in first. A blood panel costs less than six months of the wrong tablets.

FIND 02 / THE GAME

APEX 55 and the Bicycle Dragon deck

I designed a card game. I’ve been sitting on it because I don’t have enough people to playtest it properly. The game is called APEX 55. Two players, a standard 52-card deck, and a bluffing mechanic I built from years of reading people across a table.

The short version: you bid, you exile a card face-down, your opponent can call your bluff, and at 54 points the rules change entirely. You’re at the gates but you have to win by 5 to breach. It plays fast. It has real tension. It rewards patience and punishes greed.

Full rules available to paid subscribers. Link below.

While looking for a deck to play it with I found the Bicycle Dragon. Black and silver. Clean enough to read fast, sharp enough to feel like the game deserves it. I didn’t know Bicycle made decks like this. I thought they all looked the same.

If any of you want to learn APEX 55 remotely, I am genuinely looking for playtesters.

FIND 03 / THE VIEW

Sitting still as a practice

I don’t have a product to link here. Just this: I went to the beach today with no agenda. Watched the boats. Watched the water. Came back with more clarity than I’ve had all week.

I’m 55. I’ve played poker professionally. I’ve adapted to every technology shift since social media started. The one thing I keep relearning is that stillness is not the opposite of momentum. It’s where the good decisions come from.

Sit somewhere that isn’t your desk this week.

Even twenty minutes. See what comes up.

Three things. All real. All from this week.

Next Friday, three more.
