Island Jim Meets the Dark ‘N Stormy

Hey Famm,

We’re gearing up for another episode of the Meet in the Middle Cigar Show. This week, we’re diving into a cigar from the new schedule, the Island Jim San Andres #2 Torpedo (6 1/2” x 52).

If you’ve seen Island Jim before, you know the vibe, chill but rugged, adventurous, and full of character. To match that San Andres wrapper’s earthy spicy notes, Hyacinth and I have put together a pairing that is refreshingly punchy and classic.

The Drink: The Dark ‘N Stormy

We wanted something with enough backbone to stand up to a San Andres wrapper but enough “zip” to keep the palate clean. By using Diplomático Mantuano, we’re putting a premium twist on the classic Dark ‘N Stormy. While the Mantuano is a “Premium Aged Rum Optimo for Mixing,” it brings sophisticated dried fruit and oak notes that play beautifully with the spice of the ginger.

The Build:

  • 50ml Diplomático Mantuano Premium Aged Rum

  • Top with OLD JAMAICA Ginger Beer (for that authentic, fiery kick)

  • Squeeze of fresh lime juice

  • Garnish: A thick lime wedge and plenty of ice.

The Flavor Profile: The Mantuano provides a buttery richness and weight, while the Old Jamaica provides that bold ginger heat that cuts right through the San Andres leaf.

Keeping it Virgin: The “Stormy Weather” 🍹

Not doing the booze? No problem. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice flavor just because you’re skipping the rum.

The Build:

  • Fill a tall glass with crushed ice.

  • Top with OLD JAMAICA Ginger Beer.

  • Add a squeeze of lime and a tiny splash of molasses or vanilla extract to mimic that dark, aged rum depth.

  • Garnish with a lime wheel.
