Who Vetted the Vetters…

The tier money cannot buy
Anthropic now has a frontier tier that money cannot buy. Only vetting can.
Project Glasswing. The model behind it Claude Mythos 5 stays restricted while Fable 5, the same underlying model, ships to everyone else.
The argument for restriction
Restricting dangerous capabilities can be a reasonable call. Open access creates real harm. Nobody serious disputes that. The restriction is defensible.
The problem is the word doing the work
Trusted. A private company is now deciding who clears that bar for access to frontier AI capabilities.
The criteria exist. Nobody outside the building has seen them.
That is not automatically wrong. But it is a choice with weight. And the backlash, when it comes, will not be about the danger of the model. It will be about who got to decide.
